Media present Democratic National Convention as successful start to the final phase of 2020 vote
August 25, 2020. New York. – While the purpose of the Democratic National Convention was to reintroduce America to Joe Biden as the Democratic candidate for president, the news media focused on Donald Trump throughout the event, according to new research from Media Tenor International.
“In a contentious political environment like the current on in the U.S., it makes sense that the Democratic Party would be focusing on their criticisms of Trump in terms of leadership, temperament, and issues,” says Roland Schatz, founder and CEO of Media Tenor. “But the significance of this focus on Trump made clear that the 2020 election is less a contest between Biden and Trump and more a referendum on Trump himself.”
CBS news offered nearly entirely positive coverage on Biden… and nearly entirely negative coverage on Trump. Coverage on Fox News, which is often perceived as a partisan organ that favors Trump, offered both positive and negative coverage on both candidates. However, Fox News also gave Trump a significant platform to address his leadership, which was not matched by CBS. Joe Biden was less visible than Trump on both networks.
