EMBARGOED UNTIL 6PM OCTOBER 22, 2013.
Berlin. October 23, 2013 – Spiegel has been announced as the winner of this year’s Media Tenor Agenda Setter Media Award in a ceremony at the German parliament. The award recognizes the news publication most often quoted by other media around the world.
"Spiegel remains the number one news source for many other media platforms," says Roland Schatz, CEO and founder of Media Tenor International. "The Hamburg-based news magazine was often quoted on issues like public debt and international economic topics."
The Financial Times and Bild-Zeitung tied as first runner-ups. "The FT produces the most news of international significance that media from other countries also consider to be important," explains Schatz, adding that the German tabloid Bild is an opinion leader on educational topics and social welfare.
The winner of the Agenda Setter Media Award was determined by examining 2,236 references to other editorial sources in 25 international print and television outlets in the period July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013. In print media the political and business sections were analyzed. TV broadcasts were analyzed in their entirety. The average inter-coder reliability was 86.06% in the 2nd quarter of 2013.
