Israel wins Media Tenor's MENA Countries Award

EMBARGOED UNTIL 6PM, OCTOBER 23.

Berlin. October 23, 2013. Israel was recognized today for the quality of the media coverage it has received at an awards ceremony held at the German parliament during Media Tenor's 14th annual International Agenda Setting Conference.

The Media Tenor MENA Award seeks to provide a holistic evaluation of the international media profile of these countries. This evaluation was done according to ten key criteria that cover a wide range of topics that are relevant to the countries in focus. For the period July 1, 2012 – June 30, 2013, Media Tenor analyzed 1,000 reports on 13 leading international TV news programs.

Ten examined categories were to determine the award winner were: Basic visibility with no excess negativity; tonality in opinion-leading business media; coverage on economy and business; coverage from quoted financial analysts; coverage on social development; coverage on education, science and environment; coverage on culture and religion; and coverage of leaders and government.

Israel displayed strong performance on issues relating to analyst tonality, business, government and culture. Its diverse, informative and credible media image will help shape and accelerate discussions on how nations in this region are perceived by international observers. The UAE placed as the first runner-up.
