January 15, 2015. Rapperswil. – In 2014 The Wall Street Journal was the publication most often cited by other media around the world, positioning it as a major influencer of international public opinion, according to new research from Media Tenor International.
Moving up from fourth place in 2013, the prominence of quotations from The Wall Street Journal highlighted the international focus on rapidly changing global economic conditions in a world still dealing with the fall-out of the 2007/2008 crisis and the ensuing trust meltdown.
“With The Wall Street Journal and the Financial Times the most often quoted media by other outlets, it’s clear that the whole world has increased its focus on financial issues. From the ongoing influence of China and India, to the economic crisis in Russia, and the sudden drop in oil prices, it is clear that journalists are looking to their business-focused colleagues to help them tell the most thorough story possible,” says Roland Schatz, CEO and founder of Media Tenor.
Le Monde, Le Figaro, and Spiegel were the most quoted sources outside of the English-language press.
This research examined all 10,355 citations in 19 international news media, January 1, 2013 – December 31, 2014.
