Trump takes advantage of anti-immigration climate

U.S. TV & print news, August 6 – September 15, 2015

New York, September 16, 2015. As the Republican candidates get ready to debate, Donald Trump may be getting the most media attention, but challengers Carly Fiorina and Ben Carson have the most positive images, according to new research from Media Tenor International.

“The spectacle of Donald Trump has dominated the news between the August 6 debate and today, largely due to his surfing of the anti-immigration climate in both the U.S. and around the world,” says Racheline Maltese, a researcher at Media Tenor. “But he faces image risks on multiple fronts, and his image has started to decline.”

Maltese also notes that expected front-runner Jeb Bush has strong visibility but has not yet been able to set the media agenda, while Trump has remained in control by working with the media and spending less money. Other competitors also pose a threat. “Ben Carson’s image is soaring,” Maltese says, in part because of strengthening poll performance and his success with evangelicals. “Meanwhile, Carly Fiorina, has made her way into the main debate, and a strong performance could help her star rise even further.”

This research examined all 5,311reports on political figures on three U.S. TV news programs and in seven print publications from August 6 – September 15, 2015.
