Emerging market risks outweigh opportunities

Quoted financial analysts, January 1, 2015 – September 16, 2015

New York, September 18, 2015. Investment risks in emerging markets may now outweigh the opportunities, according to new research on financial analyst opinion from Media Tenor International.

“There are few emerging markets that analysts are currently expressing positive sentiment about,” says Racheline Maltese, a researcher at Media Tenor. “Iran, the market quoted financial analysts are most optimistic about, isn’t really even open for business yet on the global stage.”

Media Tenor found that financial analysts have a negative outlook on stocks, bonds, and currencies when it comes to emerging markets, and that their sentiment on companies doing business in emerging markets isn’t much better.

“Analysts are talking more about developed market companies operating in emerging market spaces, but the outlook for these firms is negative. Meanwhile, the sentiment on many of the most visible emerging market companies is also declining. Collectively, analysts are sending a clear message that this is not the time for most investors to get into emerging markets.”

This research examined all 38,720 analyst statements in eight opinion-leading business media January 1, 2015 – September 16, 2015
