Analysts turn negative on car industry

Quoted financial analysts, January 1, 2015 – September 30, 2015

New York, October 2, 2015. The car industry now faces significant criticism from the most vocal quoted financial analysts in the wake of the VW emissions scandal, according to new research from Media Tenor International.

“Earlier this year, analysts were quite positive on the car industry but the VW situation has had a broad impact,” says Racheline Maltese, a researcher at Media Tenor. “While a potential boon for Tesla and its electric cars, many other companies are now facing increased negativity. Others have been temporarily pushed out of the narrative. There have also been questions about the impact on parts suppliers.”

Media Tenor found that financial analysts view not just the industry’s present as negative, but the future as well.  “The sentiment suggests that analysts aren’t going to change their outlook soon,” says Maltese.

Automotive activities in some regions were a subject of optimism, however. “The growing middle class in India helped to drive positivity for their auto producers,” says Maltese.  Automakers in France and Italy also fared well.  And analysts speculated on the potential Iranian market.

This research examined all 41,905 analyst statements in eight opinion-leading business media January 1, 2015 – September 30, 2015
