Natural gas fares worst as analysts continue pessimism on the energy sector
Quoted financial analysts, January 1, 2015 – October 14, 2015
New York, October 16, 2015. Quoted financial analysts have grown increasingly negative on oil and gas companies, but still don’t see the sector as having bottomed out, according to new research from Media Tenor International. Additionally, natural gas poses the greatest risk for investors.
“Negativity from quoted financial analysts has grown when it comes to energy sector companies,” says Racheline Maltese, a researcher at Media Tenor. “This sentiment has been echoed by the business press at large, where none of the most visible energy sector companies have a positive image. Regulatory concerns and the economic environment have been key obstacles. Natural gas, in particular, has fared poorly.”
“Analysts have had a negative tone for some time, but their outlook for the future is even more dire,” says Maltese. “There is almost no positivity in forward-looking analyst statements, but there is lots of criticism for these companies, suggesting that investors may want to continue to wait to enter the sector as share prices are predicted to decline further.”
This research examined all 43,609 analyst statements in eight opinion-leading business media January 1, 2015 – October 14, 2015.
