Analyst skepticism growing on DAX 30
August 26, 2013. New York – Financial analysts quoted by the business news media are increasingly negative on the companies that make up Germany’s DAX 30 index, according to new research from Media Tenor International.
“Since the beginning of the year, buy ratings on DAX companies mentioned by the media have dropped from 73% of the total to 45%,” says Racheline Maltese, a researcher at Media Tenor. While she notes that some of this is profit taking in response to fluctuations in individual stock prices and the DAX as a whole, much of the negativity relates to risk factors Media Tenor has identified in quoted analyst coverage.
“Regulatory issues have become strongly visible for the DAX 30 companies since July 1,” Maltese notes. “These concerns have hit German banking firms, including Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank particularly hard,” she says, adding that negative statements from analysts regarding globalization strategy from DAX 30 companies has also weighed on index members.
Media Tenor has found that analysts have been quoted less frequently on DAX companies on a week-to-week basis since a spike in the index’s closing price at the end of April. This lack of visibility may make it challenging for the DAX to breath through to a new price or even to maintain current levels.
