Analysts see more risks ahead for banks

Quoted financial analysts, January 1, 2015 – December 2, 2015

New York, December 4, 2015. Despite financial analysts recognizing some bright spots for banks through October of 2015, further challenges await according to analyst sentiment as tracked by research institute Media Tenor International.

“Banks continue to face risk,” says Racheline Maltese, a researcher at Media Tenor. “Financial analysts have still not forgotten about the long history of regulatory and legal issues that have been part of the now nearly 10-year long trust meltdown. As much as banks are trying to wrap up these issues, they are at risk of losing their license to operate. Analysts remain skeptical, especially as companies which have not traditionally offered banking continue to move into financing and other services. Analysts also expressed concerns abut the impact on profits as new settlements continue to be announced.”

There was a shift towards Asia visible in the strategy of some banks, but analysts were pessimistic on China. Opportunities in Vietnam and India were visible, however.

This research examined all 51,421 analyst statements in eight opinion-leading business media January 1, 2015 – December 2, 2015
