Risks on retail growing, but opportunities may lie ahead

Quoted financial analysts, January 1, 2015 – March 10, 2016

New York, March 12, 2016. Quoted financial analysts see gradually increasing risks on the retail industry, but investment opportunities may lie ahead for strong performers in some markets, according to new research from Media Tenor International.

“Analysts have a mixed tone on retailers and the sentiment on the overall industry is declining,” says Racheline Maltese, a researcher at Media Tenor. “However, there are some specific opportunities. Analysts are more positive on Walmart and AutoZone than others in the sector, and tone on Amazon.com has remained relatively steady.”

Risks for the sector varied by country but did not show a regional trend. There were positive and negatives across both emerging and developed markets. Retailers operating in Vietnam, Germany, and the U.S. received the most positivity from analysts. Risks were significant in South Africa and South Korea.

This research examined all 67,035 analyst statements in eight opinion-leading business media January 1, 2015 – March 10, 2016.
