Volatile period in telecoms framed as temporary

Quoted financial analysts, January 1, 2015 – March 18, 2016

New York, March 19, 2016. Quoted financial analysts see the telecom industry as volatile but expect greater stability in the future, according to new research from Media Tenor International.

“Analysts have a mixed tone on telecoms and the sentiment on the overall industry is declining,” says Racheline Maltese, a researcher at Media Tenor. “However, the current period of volatility may provide opportunity for more adventurous investors, while others may wish to weather what is being framed as a temporary storm created by pricing and services competition.”

Risks for the sector varied by region, with analyst sentiment more positive for telecom activities in Europe, while risks in emerging markets were more prominent. Nigeria, in particular, was a source of risk for telecoms. Meanwhile, India moved against the emerging market trend and demonstrated a slightly positive sentiment from analysts. However, regulation and competition there can create risk for investors.

This research examined all 68,674 analyst statements in eight opinion-leading business media January 1, 2015 – March 18, 2016.
